Biography

Mike Fedyszyn is the Instrumental Music Director at Lake Country School in Hartland, WI and is responsible for three bands, a string program, and assisting in running the Arrowhead Area Consortium Bands. He has also served as a music teacher in the districts of Richfield, Hartford, and Germantown, Wisconsin. Mike holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from UW-Milwaukee in music education. A certified WSMA adjudicator, Mike frequently serves as a clinician throughout the state of Wisconsin. He is a leader in the field of music education; Mike often gives presentations, seminars, and graduate-level courses on topics such as middle school band pedagogy and technology in the classroom throughout the state and country. Most notably, he was selected to present at the 2009 Midwest International Band/Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. As an author, his articles on music education have been published in numerous magazines and newsletters in the music education field, including the well-known magazine The Instrumentalist.

Mike’s primary instrument is trumpet; his main teacher was Kevin Hartman, a frequent performer with the Milwaukee and Chicago Symphony Orchestras. An accomplished musician, Mike has performed with numerous bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles, and chamber ensembles, including the Concord Chamber Orchestra and principal trumpet with the Knightwind Ensemble. He also is an active freelance trumpeter in the Milwaukee area, performing in a wide variety of styles.

In addition to his classroom teaching, he was a private brass teacher for six years. Mike has also served as a music and visual instructor with the Whitnall High School Marching Band, a perennial state-champion ensemble. The current Vice-President of the Wisconsin Youth Band Directors Association (WYBDA), he is active in numerous other professional organizations, including the National Band Association (NBA), Music Educators National Conference (MENC), and Wisconsin Music Educators Association (WMEA).

Mike resides in the Lake Country area with his wife, Beth, and three cats (Mittens, Tiger, and Puffs). When he's not in the classroom, Mike enjoys playing music, following the Brewers, and spending time with family and friends.
